The Accelerator Research Centre has been established to host the first ion beam accelerator facility for Ghana. This is being done by GAEC in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vrije University of Amsterdam and KernifysischVersneller Instituut ,University of Groningen.
The accelerator facility will be used for research and teaching. The role of the accelerator project in the country’s socio-economic development shall include research and development application in all sectors of the economy and human capacity building in science and technology. The ARC’s activities will involve:
1. Understanding of the behaviour of ion beam interaction in matter
2. Studies of energy loss mechanism in materials
3. Ion characterization of elements in materials at the trace element level.
