The National Radioactive Waste Management Centre (NRWMC) was established in 1995 to manage radioactive waste generated in Ghana. The Centre is equipped with a modern state-of-the-art Centralized Radioactive Waste Processing and Storage facility. The facility has enhanced physical protection and security features which make it suitable for radioactive waste storage purposes. The building is equipped with closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras and alarm controlled doors to ensure all activities regarding the operation of the facility as well as unauthorized events are monitored.
The Centre undertakes safe retrieval, collection and transportation of disused radioactive materials from users to the Centralized Waste Processing and Storage facility located in the premises of GAEC for predisposal management.
