From analysis of both internal and external environments, considering the factors affecting the business of NNRI and also taking cognisance of its distinctive competencies and capabilities, the following thematic areas were identified to form the basis of ensuring significant transformation in the next planning phase:
Functions and Activities
The NNRI exists to promote and strengthen nuclear science and technology research, training and for the socio-economic development of Ghana. As stipulated in its vision, the institute hopes to realize these national development agenda through the peaceful application of nuclear science and technology.
In view of this, the institute through its research activities provides services to the general public in the following areas;
1. Water Resources Assessment
2. Elemental Analysis and Pollution studies in air, soil and water bodies
3.Non-Destructive Evaluation in industry
4. Management of radioactive waste
5. Pesticide Residue Analysis
6. Experimental Material Research
7. Seismic Monitoring
8.Engineering Design and Nuclear Instrumentation techniques
In addition to these, the Institute provides human resource in various areas of expertise in most Ghanaian Universities through lectures and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students’ theses.
The Institute’s facilities are also accessible to students from universities and other tertiary institutions including the School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences (SNAS), an affiliate of GAEC under the University of Ghana.
